AIS has delivered an innovative waste concept to Cummins and is now one of only 12 companies worldwide to be named a Successful Innovator within the prestigious 2017 Cummins Environmental Gateway.
In recent years, implementing sustainable business practices and strategies has become a prominent focus for companies looking to meet the expectations of a broad range of stakeholders who expect robust social and environmental policies to form part of their business DNA.
Cummins, the largest independent maker of diesel engines and related products in the world, have taken their sustainability credentials a stage further through The Cummins Environmental Gateway – a first of its kind for Cummins globally. Launched in September 2016, the project seeks to stimulate supply chain companies of all sizes to come forward with market-ready, sustainable innovations to help Cummins achieve their environmental targets in the UK.
Denis Ford – International Sourcing Leader EMEA, NE/SE Asian & S.Pacific at Cummins said:
“We would like to congratulate AIS for making the Cummins Environmental Gateway Successful Innovators List 2017. We have been very impressed with the quality of AIS’s innovation, and even more with the potential for environmental impact and savings. Together we can do more for innovation and the environment.”
Edward Pigg, Managing Director of Axil said:
“We are thrilled to be recognised as a Successful Innovator by a global company like Cummins. The Environmental Gateway project has a close synergy with the innovative total waste strategy we offer to our customers. The way we partner is unique and we take time to understand every aspect of a business before exploring the waste challenges. It’s this detailed and very personal way of working which has enabled us to identify a number of environmental gains and cost reduction opportunities.”
Waste Reduction Initiatives
AIS presented a number of options to reduce wood waste, resulting in reduced traffic movements with consequent benefits of reduction of carbon emissions, lower road noise, and improved air quality and road safety for local communities. The solution also offers further benefits in the form of recycling and renewable energy generation, consistent with circular economy principles.
Edward Pigg added:
“The Cummins Environmental Gateway focuses on the practical adoption of sustainable innovations rather than leaving the idea at just a conceptual stage. We are looking forward to meeting the challenge of testing out our innovations at the Cummins site in Darlington over the next few months, at which point we hope to join the first ever Cummins Environmental Innovations Inventory, which will be an exciting achievement.”
The Cummins Environmental Gateway has been delivered in partnership with Marcela Navarro, CEO of Business Cubed. Marcela concluded:
“With the Successful Innovators selected, we can now say that the Environmental Gateway is real. The next step is about demonstration, with massive environmental and savings potential for Cummins and exciting scale up opportunities for innovators.”
The news reinforces continued strategic traction being seen within AIS as it announces impressive sales growth of 28% in 2016, compared to last year, due to the continued delivery of total waste management contracts into top tier customers such as Cummins.
