Climate Promise

Our climate promise

We want to play our part in ensuring we address climate risks and operate in the most efficient way, reducing carbon emissions within our operations where we can and working with our supply chain to drive and support continuous improvement as part of our climate promise.

We have set a target of 50% absolute reduction in our Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2030 (against our 2022 baseline), focusing on opportunities in the below areas to achieve this:

1. Procurement of renewable energy
2. Implementation of alternative low emissions fuels for our HGV fleet
3. Implementation of alternative low/no emission fuels for our forklifts at Cannock

The UK waste industry is estimated to contribute around 5-6% of UK GHG emissions, having already reduced its emissions by around two thirds since 1990. However, we are in a unique position to directly support the decarbonisation of the whole value chain through:

1. Production of low carbon fuels for other sectors
2. Production of high quality replacement raw materials for manufacturing
3. Production of energy and heat for homes and businesses
4. Increasing options for reuse, repair, remanufacture
5. Collaborating on value chain prevention and reduction initiatives

We will continue to innovate and collaborate with our customers and supply chain to support the transition to a low carbon economy.

Progress Update

Following a recent review of our carbon reduction trajectory, we have updated our Scope 1 and 2 target from a 50% absolute reduction by 2030 to 40%. This change reflects a significantly accelerated business growth plan, driven by new investment, which increases the scale of our operations—particularly our vehicle fleet, the largest contributor to our emissions.

Importantly, this revised target has been independently reviewed, and external auditors confirmed that our previous target was no longer aligned with the updated growth trajectory. The revised 40% target is therefore both ambitious and credible, ensuring we continue to drive meaningful emissions reductions while scaling our operations to meet customer demand.

Our progress since 2025:

  1. Achieved a 33% intensity reduction in carbon emissions across the business
  2. Transitioned our entire HGV fleet onto low emissions POME- free HVO.
  3. Transitioned our compatible forklifts onto POME-free HVO.

We remain committed to supporting our customers in reducing the carbon impact of their supply chains and delivering against our sustainability goals. We will continue investing in fleet decarbonisation, operational efficiency, and lower-carbon technologies, providing continued transparency of our progress.
