Dewhurst UK, an independent supplier of quality components to the lift, keypad, and rail industries, partnered with Axil Integrated Services
to improve their waste processes through increased segregation and recycling.
Total Waste Management
Years with Axil
It was of prime significance to Dewhurst when finding a total waste management partner to improve environmental performance and receive transparent rebate values and to have a consolidated reporting system.
Dewhurst work alongside some of the largest companies to develop and manufacture quality electromechanical user interface products. Their experienced team of designers, engineers and craftsmen manufacture products which consistently exceed customer expectations.
Dewhurst is heavily focussed on business and environmental sustainability. As an organisation with over 100 years of history, Dewhurst know that manufacturing products sustainably is key to future success.
“Dewhurst has ambitions to be a zero waste to landfill manufacturer and Axil are supporting us in reaching this goal.” says Peter Dewhurst, Commercial Director.
Dewhurst are working with their customers to provide sustainable and circular disposal and recycling routes when lift installations are renovated. Dewhurst is also focussed on reducing energy and water usage to minimise their impact on the environment.
Innovations and Waste Solutions
This improved approach to waste segregation has strengthened their individual rebate value and improves Dewhurst’s environmental performance through an increase in compliance by providing accurate segregation routes for each waste stream.
Under Axil’s management, Dewhurst has introduced segregation of five metal waste streams that they handle on-site. This strengthens their individual rebate value and improves Dewhurst’s environmental performance through an increase in compliance by providing accurate segregation routes for each waste stream.
Instead of dealing with multiple waste vendors, Dewhurst now benefits from a dedicated Axil Contract Manager who oversees the movement of their waste and provides immediate support. This added value has improved Dewhurst’s productivity and ensured regulatory compliance.
Following improved segregation of waste streams on site, Dewhurst saw an increase in their rebate values. Since working with Axil to isolate each waste stream, Dewhurst now receives a return from metal waste.
“The team at Axil have been great to work with. Axil Contract Managers, Sam and Louise, have been incredibly customer focussed and kept everything very simple. With Axil’s help we have massively improved and streamlined our waste management processes.”

Benefits of Total Waste Management
Waste management has environmental and commercial benefits to your business. Done right, your waste costs can be reduced and you can turn rubbish into revenue by extracting the best-possible value for your commodity waste materials.
Dewhurst has seen an increase in recycling levels due to clear segregation of various waste streams through color-coded signage and ‘toolbox’ talks delivered to staff. Not only has this increased compliance but has allowed a growing awareness of health and safety on-site, as waste streams are now being segregated properly and the risk of cross-contamination has been eliminated.
The segregation of dry mixed recycling has also been introduced by enforcing a coherent waste recycling system with standardised colour-coded bins.
Improving waste data
Prior to Axil taking on the waste contract, waste data was not captured efficiently. Without concise and accurate data, companies are unable to highlight where costs and cost-saving opportunities exist.
Dewhurst share Axil’s enthusiasm for innovative working to meet environmental targets and desired for a consolidated reporting system of which they receive through Axils bespoke online portal.
