Two Powerful Reuse Streams — One Big Social Impact

Since 2023 Axil have facilitated the redistribution of 65,000+ surplus manufactured products and assets, avoiding significant and unnecessary waste incineration. By placing these items into reuse via our vetted UK charity and social enterprise networks, we are reducing costs, carbon emissions and supporting over 1100 charities to deliver their essential services.

At customer sites, we identify surplus manufactured products that have a useful life ahead of them, instead of unnecessary disposal routes. Working with our networks, we facilitate the re-distribution of these products from customer sites to Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) which ultimately pushes waste up the hierarchy, creating positive social impact.

Redistributed: 65,000+ surplus manufactured products

Supported: 1,128 charitable organisations and 1 multi-facility care home Network throughout the UK.

Working with our extensive asset re-use and redistribution networks, including The Re-use Networkwe have facilitated the redistribution of 1,300+ assets between 2023-2025 to charities and social enterprises across the UK. This has:

  • Redistributed 65,000+ products and assets across the UK
  • Supported 1,100+ charities and social enterprises
  • £148,000 in value of financial and in-kind contributions between 2023-2025 made to Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises facilitated via Axil thanks to the generous nature of our customers enabling opportunities for product and asset re-use.

A great example of a re-use initiative we have been working on to kick off 2026, is the redistribution of circa 1  tonne of road rock salt. This was redistributed to a local charity in the Midlands, supporting the safe continuation of the service they provide throughout winter to those in need. Important for this icy time of year!

This charity supports people in Derby who are experiencing food insecurity, through food provision, signposting, support and advice. By facilitating this redistribution, we demonstrate by extension how Axil works with their customers to support local charities and social enterprises year-round.

This July, we will see the introduction of a ban on the destruction of unsold textiles and footwear consumer products* for large enterprises, while SMEs are exempt till 2030.

Under the ESPR recycling is deemed as destruction*, pushing efforts up the waste hierarchy. It states that “The concept of destruction as outlined in this regulation covers… recycling, other recovery and disposal”. This will see a push in textiles and footwear that were once headed for incineration into re-use.

Destruction: Intentional damaging or discarding of a product as waste apart from discarding for the purpose of reuse, refurb or remanufacture.
