The Challenge

Who would have thought? A waste stream once destined for landfill, carbon dust, is now part of the circular economy, used to manufacture fitness equipment in the UK. One organisation’s waste truly became another’s resource.

Our aerospace customer faced a stubborn challenge with high Scope 3 emissions driven by landfill disposal:

  • Carbon dust accounted for 101 tonnes of their 165 tonnes of annual waste.
  • This represented 61% of total waste, all previously classified as D1 (landfill disposal).
  • The landfill route was a significant contributor to Scope 3 emissions, with no viable recycling option available at the time.
  • Costing them both money and environmental credibility.
