Axil recently collaborated with North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) in a joint effort to underscore our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility within our communities.
Together, we embarked on a mission to speed up tree planting initiatives across the borough, marking a significant stride towards a greener, more sustainable future.

We wanted to be part of this, not just for the tree planting, but to support North Northamptonshire Council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy and their proactive stance on climate change mitigation. By planting trees across our region, we hope to contribute to enhancing biodiversity, establishing rewilding corridors, and ensuring sustainable woodlands accessible to all.

“Our collaboration with North Northamptonshire Council shows our dedication to environmental stewardship and community well-being,” says Gina Rudkin, Head of Sustainability and Zero Waste. “Through initiatives like this, we not only plant trees but sow the seeds of a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come.”
Over 70 volunteers from local businesses and community groups, including BakeAway, Ricoh UK Ltd, RS Components, and Natural-Ise, joined forces with teams from the council to plant over 650 trees at various sites across Corby and Kettering.
The selection of tree species planted, including Rowan, Wild Cherry, English Oak, Hawthorn, and Silver Birch, reflects a thoughtful approach aimed at bolstering canopy cover and fostering future growth. This effort is particularly crucial amidst challenges such as Ash Dieback disease.
We are committed to providing quality green spaces and community engagement is key to ensuring that green spaces are cared for in generations to come. I would encourage other businesses and volunteers to get involved and make contact with our teams. Cllr Harriet Pentland, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive Member for Climate and the Green Environment

The recent tree planting complements broader efforts by the council to increase canopy cover and replace trees lost to disease and climate change. This season alone, the council’s Grounds Services and Parks and Woodlands teams, in collaboration with various partners, have planted over 7,175 whips across five NNC country parks and Corby woodlands.
As we continue to champion sustainability and social responsibility, Axil remains committed to developing partnerships that make a positive difference in our communities. Together with North Northamptonshire Council and other stakeholders, we take pride in nurturing a greener, more resilient future.
