Marking Earth Overshoot Day: The Day We’ve Taken Too Much

Today is Earth Overshoot Day.

The day humanity’s demand for natural resources exceeds what the planet can regenerate in a full year. Everything we use from now until 31 December is borrowed from the future – and it’s not sustainable.

Calculated by the Global Footprint Network, Earth Overshoot Day shows how fast we’re burning through the planet’s budget. Every year, the date creeps earlier. Every year, the warning gets louder.

This isn’t just about numbers. It’s about deforestation, biodiversity loss, extreme weather, and resource scarcity. It’s about a broken system that needs fixing.

Plenty. And we already are.

Follow the Waste Hierarchy

We work with customers to prevent, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, and recover waste. It’s the foundation of everything we do.

In 2024, we helped redirect and reuse over 10,000 tonnes of products, assets, and materials – keeping them in use and out of the bin.

We connect with charities and social enterprises to give second life to furniture, materials, and perfectly good stock. Together, we reduce waste and do some good along the way.

Axil is powered by 100% renewable electricity across all sites.
