At Axil, Zero Waste is at the heart of everything we do. We are always seeking innovative solutions to prevent waste and avoid incineration. We have recently had a win for sustainability: we’ve successfully rehomed 55 tonnes of surplus firefighting foam, which was initially destined for high-temperature incineration.

To put this into perspective, 55 tonnes of foam is equivalent to around 46,000 litres – enough to create a protective barrier on a massive scale, potentially covering entire fire scenes and helping to quickly suppress blazes. In emergencies, rescue workers and firefighters are the first to arrive, ready to help, protect, and save lives.
These heroes rely on the best equipment, and this in-date foam, now rehomed instead of discarded, will continue to support their life-saving efforts.

Gina Rudkin Axil’s Head of Sustainability & Zero Waste –
“By sourcing a sustainable redistribution route, we’ve not only avoided waste creation and reduced emissions but also saved our client money. This is a prime example of how Axil is driving circular business models, ensuring valuable resources keep serving their purpose”
For other organisations in a similar position, this success story offers a clear alternative to simply incinerating. With the right approach, unwanted assets and stock can be transformed into a critical resource before being discarded as waste, benefiting both business operations and the environment.
Looking ahead, we’ll continue to innovate and deliver sustainable solutions that keep valuable resources in use, reinforcing our commitment to Zero Waste practices.
Together, we can make a lasting impact by embracing circular solutions and turning surplus into something meaningful.
