At Axil, sustainability isn’t just about recycling rates and waste data. Sometimes, it’s about simply noticing the world around you – and doing the right thing.

Site operative Darren McCormack spotted something unusual near the BMW Group site electricity pylon – a fledgling male Peregrine Falcon, fallen from its nest. Acting fast and with care, Darren contacted a local wildlife rescue team. They collected the bird and confirmed it was healthy but too young to fly. It was safely transferred to the Falconry Centre in Hagley for care.
Just a few days later, Darren spotted a second chick – a larger, feistier female – also grounded. He gently secured the bird, found it a quiet spot, and, with a little help from Paul at Mitie (who found a freshly deceased rabbit from a nearby lane), made sure it was fed before calling the Falconry Centre again. The team came to collect the chick, delighted with the humane effort and quick thinking.
Both birds are now safe and will be released back into the wild shortly, where their parents will continue to teach them how to hunt and thrive.
What This Tells Us About Axil
This isn’t just a story about wildlife – it’s a story about culture.
It shows what happens when people care and are empowered to act. The Axil team is always tuned in – to environmental improvements, safer processes, and smarter ways of managing waste. But as this story shows, they also look beyond the obvious. They act with heart. They notice the small things. And they’re not afraid to step in when it counts.
This was a small act with a big impact – and a timely reminder that sustainability is about more than metrics. It’s about being present, proactive, and always ready to make a difference.
