The Challenge
CMD Ltd, the UK’s largest manufacturer of desk-based electrical and power distribution products, faced a challenge common to many manufacturers – surplus or unsellable but functional products – 400 USB car charger units, that could not be sold through regular channels.
Previously, these products would have been sent for disposal, generating unnecessary waste, cost and carbon emissions. CMD also produces a wide range of electrical products that periodically face similar surplus situations.
Axil’s Input
Axil identified an opportunity to redirect these surplus items to communities in need via their charity partner. This charity connects corporate donors with over 6,000 registered UK charities through an innovative e-commerce platform, ensuring that vital products reach those who need them most at heavily discounted rates.
Key actions included:
- Identifying the opportunity to avoid waste and keep products in use
- Coordinating the collection and redistribution of 400 car charging USBs.
- Acting quickly to create joint social value and maximise impact
- Supporting Axils goals to extend a helping hand to UK communities and charities
