One of the biggest firms in the global pharmaceutical industry has asked Axil Integrated Services to continue delivering its total waste management solutions for the next three years.
Recipharm, previously Aesica, is one of the world’s top five pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organisations and has once again contracted Axil to service its sites at Queenborough in Kent and Holmes Chapel near Manchester.
The contract renewal is fantastic news for Axil, which works with some of the UK’s best-known brands. It had previously worked with Recipharm at Holmes Chapel and had worked at the Queensborough site for Aesica before the company was taken over by Recipharm earlier this year.
Jason Lang, Commercial Director at Axil Integrated Services, commented: “We’re thrilled Recipharm has been impressed by our commitment and innovative approach and has asked us to provide a total waste management service for them for at least a further three years.
“During our time working at Queenborough and Holmes Chapel, we have achieved a 50% cost reduction in contaminated waste spend. We have also improved education for staff on-site which resulted in reductions in non-conformance reports and contaminated waste load.
“We helped them to save more than £30,000 by improving transport efficiencies, optimising disposal routes and identifying materials which return rebates. They also achieved a 10% rebate improvement, delivered through the segregation of waste streams, which provided revenue back to Recipharm from materials previously sent to landfill.”
Axil has a dedicated waste management operative at the Queenborough site, who work with Recipharm to satisfy any secure waste disposal compliance-related requirements, offer support on environmental and sustainability projects and drive forward innovation.

Recipharm Indirect Procurement Manager Joe Thompson said: “We have had a strong working relationship with Axil during their time providing waste services to the Queenborough site and we are glad to be extending our agreement with the aim of achieving further efficiencies in our waste management and continuing to educate our staff on the best practices to reduce both the cost and environmental impact at Recipharm.”
